About Empowering Yoga

Empowering Yoga – The modern fusion of Hatha Yoga with the principles of Vinyasa Yoga, encompassing a range of free flowing movements from simple, mindful postures to empowering and dynamic sequences all blended together with the breath.

A space in time to breathe, nurture, centre and empower yourself,  leaving you glowing from the inside out.

A Place in Time for You

Our world has become so busy, our day gets filled with little space in between activities.  We work, look after children, parents, maintain a home, run from one thing to the next!  Before you know it, the day has gone only to be repeated the next day and so on.  Sound familiar?

Imagine, just for a moment, being still, the ground beneath you, with no place you need to be, your phone set on silent, and no chore to complete.  The quiet, stillness and space beckons you to indulge.

Empowering Yoga will bring you to this place, by guiding your focus entirely on moving though postures & acknowledging what your body and breath are doing in the ‘here and now‘.

 A Typical Class

My class begins with warm up movements incorporating the breath to prepare and align both mind and body, closing the door to external stimuli so you can ‘experience’ the benefits of the ‘here and now’.  Moving on with stronger more dynamic physical postures to build strength, flexibility and tone the body. The class will be completed with the practice of either Pranayama (cleansing breathing techniques), Yoga Nidra (conscious deep relaxation – not sleeping!) or Meditation.

A note for men:

Yoga isn’t only for women. More & more men are  exploring the benefits of  yoga and are making time for a regular practice, often alongside other sport.  I often have a high male / female ratio in my class, particularly at the evening & weekend.  Just take a look at the list of benefits below to see how Yoga can enhance your life.

The Benefits of Yoga

The benefits of yoga,  can be received by everyone, no matter how flexible you are, how fit you are or how old you are. . Find out more about the benefits here.

Yoga is non-competitive, which means that you don’t need to be better or stronger than others in class. There’s no need to compare yourselves to other students, wishing your heels could reach the floor in ‘downward dog’ like the person infront of you!!  All that matters is your own practice, that you focus on where you are and accept what you’re able to achieve at this present time.

Yoga teaches patience, for sure, but it is also progressive & in time your body will not only strengthen and tone but will free up and naturally become more supple when you stop resisting.

Other benefits from regular yoga include:

-Improves flexibility and strength   -Reduces injury
-Improves muscle tone -Strengthens the immune system
-Enhances core muscle strength -Lowers stress and anxiety levels
-Strengthens the back -Increases coping mechanisms
-Improves posture -Strengthens the lungs
-Improves digestion and elimination of toxins and waste- beneficial for IBS -Stimulates focus and clarity, willpower, confidence and determination
