ABOUT JOANNE MARSH
I have been teaching yoga for 15 years now and starting Empowering Yoga is one of my proudest achievements. Yoga has been in my life and every cell in my body for over 35 years now! I simply took my time to practice and let it do its magic until I was ready to teach. I had to put the practice to the test, live it, breathe it until it really seeped in.
My love and relationship with yoga started tentatively in Putney. There weren't many studios around at that time but the Sivananda Vedanta Centre welcomed me & nurtured my love for yoga. I grew as I learned and found that these wonderful classes helped me see the world differently. My consistent practice helped me find peace when peace was needed, it gave me strength when I needed it most and of course, it was keeping me fit and healthy.
As a child & teenager, I was a dancer. I loved the grace and musicality of ballet and tap and when I grew out of those dance classes, I still liked to keep myself fit. As a young adult I would swim, go to the gym and keep fit classes (You know the ones, think Jane Fonder leotards!!). Yoga was then recommended to me and it became such a passion in my life. When the right time appeared, I decided to delve deeper and learn to teach so I could finally share the benefits and practices that were having such a profound effect on me. By this time, I had found two beautiful souls and inspiring teachers in Tara Patel and her son, Neil Patel, founder of Chi Kri Yoga, who taught and guided me for over 20 years.
Over the years I have explored different styles and schools, seeking out classes wherever I have travelled around the world. I‘ve found the combination of the creative and fluid practice of Vinyasa Flow and the cooling slow and nurturing Yin Yoga is the perfect combination to practice and share. Recently I have added body weight conditioning yoga and functional movement to maintain strength in my bones, I'm 56 now!
I continue to delve deeper into my practice to explore, experience, and understand the boundless possibilities of being happy, healthy, content and authentic in a life that is often challenging.
I look forward to welcoming you to the Yoga mat very soon.
